The SMRM was founded by the joint efforts of Dr. Keshav K. Singh, Dr. Lalji Singh and Dr. K. Thangaraj.
Dr. Keshav Singh is a Joy and Bill Harbert Endowed chair and professor in the Department of Genetics, Pathology and Environmental Health. He is also director of the Cancer Genetics Program at UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center at Birmingham, AL, USA. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Mitochondrion journal and the founder of the Mitochondria Research and Medicine Society in USA
Late Dr. Lalji Singh was the Director of Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, India. He established the Center for the DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) and Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES) at Hyderabad. He was a recipient of several prestigious awards including Padmashree award and JC Bose Fellowship.
Dr. K. Thangaraj , is a Scientist at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India. He has been working in the field of mitochondria over a decade. Dr. Thangaraj and Singh jointly organized the historic First Indo-US Workshop on Mitochndrial Research and Medicine at CCMB, Hyderabad in 2007.
